The AWA6022A is a compact Class 2 sound calibrator designed for field calibration and verification of sound level meters, noise dosimeters, measurement microphones and other acoustic measuring instruments.
It generates selectable 94 dB and 114 dB sound pressure levels at 1 kHz, providing a quick and reliable method of checking instrument sensitivity before and after noise measurements.
With automatic atmospheric-pressure compensation, simple push-button operation and support for common measurement microphone sizes, the AWA6022A is an economical calibration solution for workplace noise, occupational hygiene, environmental surveys and general acoustic measurement.

94 dB & 114 dB Calibration
The AWA6022A provides two selectable calibration levels:
| Calibration Level | Typical Use |
|---|---|
| 94 dB @ 1 kHz | Routine field calibration and verification of sound level meters and noise dosimeters |
| 114 dB @ 1 kHz | Higher-level calibration where required by the instrument or measurement procedure |
The calibrator starts at 94 dB and can be switched to 114 dB using the 94/114 function control.
Class 2 Calibration
The AWA6022A complies with IEC 60942:2017 Class 2 and is an ideal companion for Class 2 sound measurement instruments.
Typical applications include:
- Class 2 sound level meters
- Personal noise dosimeters
- Workplace noise surveys
- Occupational hygiene
- Machinery noise measurement
- Environmental noise surveys
- Health and safety inspections
- General acoustic measurement
Where a Class 1 calibration system is required, choose the AWA6021A Class 1 Sound Calibrator instead.
Microphone Compatibility
The standard adaptor is designed for commonly used 1/2" measurement microphones.
The AWA6022A can also be used with:
- 1" microphones – by removing the standard adaptor
- 1/4" microphones – using the optional AWA8532 adaptor
Free-Field Microphone Correction
When calibrating a free-field microphone, a small correction may be required depending on the microphone design.
For a typical 1/2" free-field microphone, the specified correction at 1 kHz is -0.2 dB. Therefore, with the calibrator generating 94.0 dB, the connected measuring instrument would typically display approximately 93.8 dB.
Always use the correction specified for the particular microphone being calibrated.
Simple Field Operation
- Switch the AWA6022A on.
- Allow the calibration signal to stabilise.
- Carefully place the calibrator over the measurement microphone.
- Wait until the indicator confirms a stable output.
- Perform or verify calibration on the connected instrument.
- Select 114 dB if the higher calibration level is required.
- Remove the calibrator when calibration is complete.
When the microphone is removed and the calibrator cavity remains open, the AWA6022A automatically switches off after approximately five seconds.

Calibration & Verification
For measurements requiring traceability, the acoustic calibrator itself should also be periodically calibrated.
Periodic metrological calibration—typically once per year—is recommended to maintain the specified sound pressure level accuracy.
Help Me Choose
AWA6021A vs AWA6022A Sound Calibrators
| Model | Accuracy | Output | Best For / Why Choose It |
|---|---|---|---|
| AWA6021A | Class 1 | 94 / 114 dB @ 1 kHz | Class 1 and Class 2 sound measurement systems. Highest calibration accuracy. |
